Carnegie Hill

Carnegie Hill as a neighborhood is super chill and quite special. I happen to have an affinity for it as it’s been my home the last 9 years. There are many families that have lived here forever and care a lot about the neighborhood, so it’s very well maintained and clean. It’s also an Historic District so there are many boutique style ‘mom-n-pop’ restaurants and shops and you also won’t find (thankfully) any McDonalds or Burger Kings here either.

Where.

Carnegie Hill is an extension of the Upper East Side. Located between 5th Avenue and Lexington Avenue and 86th Street to 96th Street, nestled right next to Central Park.

Attractions.

Because Carnegie Hill is an enclave of the Upper East Side you get the same attractions. The Met, Guggenheim and Cooper Hewitt are some key museums and of course Central Park is a key attraction. Because Carnegie Hill is such a relaxed neighborhood it’s also nice to simply stroll Park Avenue or one of the many other well manicured Streets.

Transit.

The main train line is the 4/5/6 Trains which run a beeline straight up and down Lexington Avenue, making it very easy to get downtown fast. The new Q Train is a 5-10 minute walk further but worth the trip if you plan on going to the west side.

The Central Park.

One of the main selling points for Carnegie Hill is it’s close proximity to Central Park. Entering on 90th Street at Engineer’s Gate you’re right across from the Jackie Onassis Reservoir, great for a walk or run any time of day.

Food & Drink

Most of the neighborhood's restaurants are located up and down Park and Lexington Avenues. Popular with the locals are delicious Italian restaurants Paola’s and il Viccolina which are mobbed on weekends. A short walk down to 2nd and 3rd Avenues though and you get a multitude of new options.

History & Architecture

History Preserved.

Once again… did I mention that Carnegie Hill is located within an Historic District? Most of the architecture here is pristine. If you love ornate brownstones then this is a fantastic place to roam around. There are also historic mansions from the 1920’s when all the super wealthy like Andrew Carnegie, George Fischer Baker and Victoria Vanderbilt moved uptown.
